David Beckham has today selected the coach for his upcoming MLS franchise, and it is his former Real Madrid teammate, Roberto Carlos, according to AS.

Carlos entered into management following his retirement, however is yet to take a high-level job. He has managed Russian side Anhzi Makhachkala and Turkish sides Sivasspor and Belediyespor. His current job is in the Indian Super League with Dehli Dynamos.

The report indicates that Paul Scholes was overlooked for the role due to the belief that he would not appeal to the Hispanic population in LA, where the franchise is based. Carlos also has some managerial experience, so is not being thrown in at the deep end like Scholes may have been.

Carlos and Beckham have a good relationship after their four years as teammates, so for the owner and manager to get along well could be a huge bonus for Beckham’s new side.
