This weekend MLS fans will be greeted to a Western Conference clash between FC Dallas and the San Jose Earthquakes in Frisco, Texas at Toyota Stadium. Both sides drew last weekend with 1-1 draws. FC Dallas took on the Columbus Crew at home, clawing their way back from an early ninth minute goal by Columbus’ Justin Meram. However, FC Dallas displayed the fight fans are accustomed to as Canadian International Tesho Akindele leveled the score in the 77′ minute, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
The same story happened with San Jose. The Earthquakes took on DC United in Avaya Stadium, where United’s Patrick Nyarko scored the first goal in the 34′ minute. All hope seemed to be lost until San Jose striker Adam Jahn scored a thrilling goal to level the game in the 88′ minute, resulting in another 1-1 draw.
Both FC Dallas and San Jose have enjoyed successful starts. FC Dallas will defend their home this weekend, going into the match with a 3-1-1 record. The Earthquakes will travel to Dallas hoping to regain their form after their loss to the Galaxy back in March.
Players to watch out for in this match are FC Dallas’ Maximiliano Urruti and San Jose’s Chris Wondolowski. Ever since joining Dallas in the offseason, the Argentine striker has appeared in five matches for the Western Conference leaders, scoring a total of three goals. Likewise, San Jose captain and star striker Chris Wondolowski will look to continue his scoring form. In San Jose’s four matches this season, the U.S. International has placed three goals in the back of the net.
The last match between the two sides resulted in a 2-1 victory for FC Dallas at home.
FC Dallas have recently regained their hot scoring streak. With San Jose playing a slower style, FC Dallas will hope to exploit the Earthquakes using their pace. I think it’ll be a tight match, but the home advantage should give FC Dallas the upper hand. My prediction is FC Dallas will win 2-1.
