Former LA Galaxy midfielder Juninho has returned to Major League Soccer joining the Chicago Fire from Club Tijuana in Mexico. In five years with the Galaxy, he won two Supporters’ Shields and three MLS Cups while making 192 appearances. Juninho, 27, made just 20 appearances with Club Tijuana in 2016.

The Fire traded up to second in the allocation order to receive Juninho. In exchange, they gave up the number three spot and general allocation money.

Currently, Juninho will be a designated player for the Fire. However, the club can use targeted allocation money to buy him down, allowing them to still sign their third designated player.

Fire general manager Nelson Rodriguez said in a statement:

Juninho is a champion, a complete player and a beautiful person. He excels in all facets of the game and fully understands the commitment it takes to lift trophies. We’re thrilled that Juninho will wear red in his return to MLS.

The Fire have now acquired Nemanja Nikolic and Juninho this week, however, they may not be done. A source tells the Daily Herald the Fire could make another big move or two in the next week. Two players they have been linked to in recent times are Bastian Schweinsteiger and Andres Guardado. Should the club acquire either one of them, it will undoubtedly be the best Fire team in recent memory.
