Orlando City SC star forward Cyle Larin was arrested around 2:30 am on Thursday on a DUI charge after he was driving the wrong way on an Orlando road.
According to a local Orlando station, News 6, Larin told a Florida Highway Patrol trooper that he was unfamiliar with the area. Larin has lived in Orlando for three years, however.
The 22-year-old also initially denied having consumed any alcohol before eventually changing his story and claiming to have had two or three vodka Red Bulls. Larin then performed field tests before being arrested for DUI.
Larin will now undergo assessment by MLS’ Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health doctors, according to a statement by the league. He will not be able to participate in any team activities until cleared by the doctors and completion of an investigation by MLS.
Orlando City SC had this to say in a released statement:
Orlando City SC takes great pride in the way it represents the Orlando community and expects all players, coaches and front office staff to uphold that standard at all times, both on and off the field. The Club is very disappointed in Cyle Larin’s actions that resulted in this charge and does not take this situation lightly. We are working with local authorities, Major League Soccer and Cyle to take appropriate action in line with league protocol.
Dash cam footage can be seen on the Orlando Sentinel and shows a Mercedes coming to a stop to avoid being hit by Larin. Luckily, the trooper was in the right place at the right time and no accidents or injuries occurred. The Lion’s next match is this Saturday at home vs the Montreal Impact.
