Haiti and Jamaica still on course for World Cup berths
The citizens of both Haiti and Jamaica can certainly believe, as their World Cup hopes are kept afloat!
Haiti and Jamaica’s hopes for a 2018 World Cup berth are still alive, as they both managed to salvage three points in their most recent matches. Haiti beat Grenada 6-1 on aggregate, whilst Jamaica scored a last-minute winner against Nicaragua to take home three points as a result of a 4-3 win on aggregate.
Jamaica lost the first leg of their match against Nicaragua in Kingston, could this have been caused by the exclusion of stars Giles Barnes and Wes Morgan? The ‘Reggae Boyz’ required a Simon Dawkins stoppage time goal in order to take home the win and keep their dream alive for World Cup qualification. After this comeback win and the Gold Cup Final appearance, Jamaica will be confident for the remainder of the qualifying matches ahead of the next World Cup.
Haiti unquestionably had no issues against a weak Grenada side, winning 6-1 over the two legs. Haiti international forward Duckens Nazon was awarded FIFA.com’s player of the round award after he scored in both legs leading the Haitian team to the tremendous win.
Jamaica and Haiti were drawn into the same assortment for the 2018 World Cup group qualifying stage, and they are accompanied by Costa Rica and Panama. Both are tough teams, and the Caribbean dark-horses should be in for a challenge within their group.
