MLS pre-season friendlies round-up: February 17th
Plenty of pre-season friendlies took place last night, with teams from the MLS mostly facing each other, however, some faced teams from lower leagues in U.S. soccer. Here is our round -up of what happened in last night’s matches.
San Jose Earthquakes 3-1 Sonoma County Sol.
Goals from Chad Barrett, Quincy Amarikwa and Adam Jahn saw San Jose ease past US’ 4th division side Sonoma County Sol FC. New Earthquakes signing Simon Dawkins got two assists as the Earthquakes prepare for their season opener against the Colorado Rapids on the 6th March.
New York Red Bulls 2-3 Orlando City SC
In this all MLS affair, Orlando City came out on top against the New York Red Bulls at the ChampionsGate Sports Complex as both teams prepare for the new season in March. Kaka opened the scoring for the Lions before Bradley Wright-Phillips gave the Red Bulls the lead. Shortly afterwards, Kemar Lawrence put New York in front but that was cancelled out by two Orlando goals from Adrian Winter and Pedro Ribeiro.
D.C. United 1-1 Philadelphia Union
It finished level between D.C and Philadelphia at the Al Lang Stadium. Sebastien Le Toux gave Philadelphia an early lead before D.C. were awarded a penalty. Fabian Espindola scored from the penalty spot as the game finished level.

New York City FC 1-0 Montreal Impact
Patrick Mullins scored the only goal of the game as NYCFC beat the Impact 1-0. That’s three wins from three for New York City in pre-season.

Colorado Rapids 1-3 Swope Park
The Colorado Rapids were beaten 1-3 by USL side Swope Park. Kris Tyrpak, Alberto Sanchez and Will Little got the goals that saw the third division side ease past Colorado. Dominique Badji got the Rapids’ goal.
Sporting Kansas City 2-2 Columbus Crew
Sporting KC and the Crew drew 2-2 in a thrilling match at the Kino Sports Complex Grandstand Field. Two goals from Kei Kamara wasn’t enough for Columbus to come away with win as Kansas got their goals through Soni Mustier and Faik Hajderovic.
New England Revolution 3-3 Real Salt Lake
In this exciting game between two MLS sides, it finished three goals each between New England and Real Salt Lake. The Rev’s went 2-0 up thanks to goals from Michael Gamble and Charlie Davies before Real Salt Lake scored three quick goals to turn the match around thanks to Javier Morales, Jamison Olave and Olmes Garcia. New England, however, got a late equaliser through Charlie Davies for his second of the match.
LA Galaxy 0-4 Seattle Sounders
In Seattle’s last pre-season match before the new season, they thumped the LA Galaxy 4-0. New Galaxy signings Ashley Cole, Jelle Van Damme and Nigel De Jong all featured but couldn’t inspire their team for anything in the match. The Seattle goals came from Andreas Ivanschitz scoring two, as well as Chad Marshall and Clint Dempsey getting the others.
